He has a really high status. All of his mates call him Bill Sikes because he used to beat up his previous girlfriend really badly. He has tried to hit me but stopped himself, he wouldn’t hit me, would he? When I get back even a few minutes late, he starts shouting and excusing me of attempting to leave him or that I have been seeing another man. When I haven’t. The other day he got really angry because I was half and our late, waiting in a queue to get him some alcohol. When I walked in it was really quite, so I started whispering his name just in case he was asleep, and then the next thing I new he had me by the throat, I was shocked I didn’t know what to do. “Where have you been who have you been seeing! I thought you left me!” I was in so scared I staring crying, dropped the alcohol and started explaining where I was and showed him the alcohol that I dropped when he grabbed me. The he realised I was getting him a drink and not out with someone else. Then when he had finished looking at the alcohol on the floor he looked back up at me and said something he has never said to me at all, “You’re my girl and none else’s understand!” I was so scared and shocked I just agreed with him. He let me go, picked up alcohol and started watching TV and drinking. I was so scared, upset and confused I just went to bed. But then the next morning he was really loving towards me. I sat up to see what the time was, and he put his hand on my stomach and pulled me gently back on to the bed and kissed me, like he did on our first date. He asked me where I was going I said “To the shop and then round my friends house”, then he said “Don’t be back late, we don’t want a repeat of last night”. Then he let me go and get changed and go out without any other questions. When he grabbed me, that was only the first time, he had every touched me aggressively. I don’t want to loose him. He knows that I love him and that I would never go with anyone else. Most people do see the side I see caring and loving. But why does he act like this?

It was nice to read a letter praising President Bush, ("Critics of Bush need to study facts" by Milton Pierce, Jan. 8). I believe Pierce has stated how the majority of Republicans feel about the good job Bush has done after the bombing of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

We grieve for the soldiers who have been lost in Iraq and for their families. For those of us who lived through World War II and the wars since, we also grieve for the many more members of the Armed Forces who died for our country. We join Pierce in welcoming home George and Laura Bush when they return to Texas.

Devise plan to save us from Congress

Well, the morons in Congress have finally done it. They figured out a way to out-Gore Al Gore. They are going to save the planet with a new style light bulb. President Bush and Congress say this will greatly reduce global warming. Man, I know what they mean. When I turn on a 100-watt bulb, it gets so hot in the house that I can hardly stand it. They're also going to demand a six-fold increase in ethanol-made corn that will save us about $700 a year in fuel costs. Isn't that wonderful? Now you can take $700 and add about $1,500 more to buy food because of the increased price of corn.

While they keep coming up with these great plans to save the planet, what we really need is a plan to save us from Congress. They work about as well as a one and a half gallon commode - another great idea.
